As a researcher, I find a lot of odd things. Hockey players on wrestlers' shoulders. Muppets in NHL gear. Bobby Hull skating with Sesame Street on Ice. Naked hockey player brawls. Naked hockey players. Hockey players posing with a goat they've just won as game MVP.
Still, none of it quite prepared me for this. In February 1983, Isles players posed for Penthouse in their underwear.
"Hey Isles, it's Penthouse. Would you pose for us?"
"Sure!"
Players arrive, ready with their Zoolander poses.
"...No, no. We just needed someone to model underwear for us."
"Oh..."
"Here's a consolation model to pose with!"
I guess when you've got a dynasty, you've gotta show off your cups.
